It's Possible to Manage Pain without Opioids After Knee Surgery

Henry Ford Health System believes that they are among the first to conduct a study of this kind. They looked at meniscus surgery, which is the most common knee surgery, and treated half of patients with opioids and half with other pain management medications like acetamenophin, anti-inflammatories, and muscle relaxers. Dr. Jildeh led the study and the findings suggest that equivalent pain management and patient satisfaction was met without the use of opioids. Henry Ford's new standard protocol following meniscus surgery will not include the use of opioids.
